An investment of Q80 billion in four years for infrastructure was offered this Thursday, April 18, by President Bernardo Arévalo during the State of the Nation event, organized by the Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce (CCG).
Together with some members of the cabinet, the most important actions of the Executive during the first 95 days of mandate, as well as future actions, were announced.
The president emphasized the relevance of road infrastructure projects to comply with his work axes for the four years of government.
Among the works, the secondary roads and rural roads project stood out, which focuses on the construction and improvement of these roads.
“We were doing the calculations with the Minister of Finance of investment in the four years of the State, investment of the State in infrastructure, whether for development and well-being or in roads, of Q80 billion for four years,” said Arévalo. .
He added that it would be expected that at the end of the mandate the investment rate in the State budget would have increased by at least 50 percent. This same logic follows the budget expansion of Q13 billion that will be requested from Congress.
He recognized that there is less investment in infrastructure where there is more concentrated poverty, so a large part of the investment will be directed to highways, roads, schools and health centers in locations with fewer resources.
“So that people have opportunities to take advantage of and develop,” said the president.
The event included the participation of the president of the CCG, Jorge Briz, as well as the holders of the Communications portfolios, Jazmín de la Vega; of Finance, Jonathan Menkos; of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, and of Foreign Relations, Carlos Ramiro Martínez, as well as the vice minister of Integration and Foreign Trade, Héctor Marroquín.
The officials announced the achievements they have achieved in the 95 days of management, as well as the following actions and goals that will be worked on.
Also present were the private secretary of the Presidency, Ana Glenda Tager; the official deputy José Sanabria and the deputy Nadia de León, from the Nos bloc.
For his part, Briz made reference to the relationship that has been maintained with Arévalo since the transition period, and the expectation regarding the president’s promises and work plan.
“They were very clear in their presentations regarding what projects are being carried out, what are the major works that are going to be carried out in terms of investment, and there is a lot of clarity on the part of the governor regarding what are the areas of development of the country where the needs and problems to be solved are found,” said the businessman.
In addition, the ancestral authorities of Nebaj and the Xinca Parliament attended at the invitation of the CCG, who requested that the president “continue to be open to working on agendas of common interest,” and asked the private sector for “understanding in the different ways of life.” .
“We are already having our work plans with the president. We are going to follow these processes,” commented Feliciana Herrera, Ixil mayor.
Along these lines, both the private and indigenous sectors said they support the current administration of the Executive, with the possibility of promoting more rapprochements between all sectors in favor of the development of the country.
