Arévalo appoints 12 other governors; 2 are pending
The Executive has already appointed 20 of the 22 departmental governors, through a process that has been criticized due to the delay in the execution of works.

President Bernardo Arévalo appointed another 12 departmental governors this Thursday, April 25, thereby completing 20 of the list of 22 representatives of the Executive in the province, the Government of the Republic reported.
These appointments come following the mayor showed their dissatisfaction with the slowness of the process, since, as they say, it will have an impact on the hauling works.
According to the Government of these 12 governors, five were elected through the shortlist presentation procedure, while the other seven were selected by the president himself.
Selected by shortlists
- Sololá: Édgar Benjamín Tuy Bixcul (starter) and Félix Rubén Ajú Pérez (substitute)
- Suchitepéquez: Aura Mariana Enríquez Cotton (owner)
- Petén: Mauricio José Acevedo (starter)
- Escuintla: Vivian Gabriela Mayorga de Estada (substitute)
- Chiquimula: Álvaro Augusto Noguera Flores (substitute)
“These appointments were made on the basis of shortlists sent by the Departmental Development Councils (Cocode),” the Government details in a statement.
He adds that in the case of the departments whose CODEDE did not send a shortlist, repeated candidates or failed to comply with the deadlines established in the Law, “the President, directly applying the Constitution, elected governors, considering the general list of candidates proposed in each department, according to established criteria. in the ruling of file 4241-2022, of the Constitutional Court.”
In these cases, the president decided to make the following appointments:
- Alta Verapaz: Dilia Margarita Co Coy (starter) and Alfredo Chub Coy (alternate)
- Huehuetenango: Elsa Hernandez Mendez (starter) and Sebastian Alfredo Lopez Camposeco (substitute)
- Izabal: Carlos Enrique Tenas Martínez (starter) and Gilda Ismelda Córdova Pacheco (substitute)
- Jutiapa: Diana Maria Herrera Zepeda (starter) and Julio Palma Figueroa (alternate)
- Quetzaltenango: Aldo Fernando Herrera Schell (starter) and Mayra Leticia López Sosa (substitute)
- Sacatepequez: Maria Angelina Aspuac Con (starter) and Sochil Escarlet Acajabon (substitute)
- Chimaltenango: María del Tránsito Calan Hernández (owner)
“In the case of Baja Verapaz and Retalhuleu, a new shortlist has been requested from the Codede, considering that the candidates sent are not repositories of public trust,” says the Executive.
Other appointments
Eight other governors had previously been appointed
- In the department of Guatemala, the titular governor is Diego Eduardo de León Barrios; and the substitute, Cristian Joselito Tzorin García
- In El Progreso, only Karoll Elyana Paredes Zacarías was named titular governor
- Delfina Celestina García Reyes was appointed governor of Totonicapán and the substitute was pending
- In Quiché, Mélinton Estuardo Solórzano Rivera is named as starter and Hector Morán Vin as substitute
- Gladis Judith Vasquez Lopez, is appointed acting governor of Jalapa; and Brenda del Carmen Raymundo Guzman, as alternate
- Francisco Arturo Echeverría Jordan is named substitute in Zacapa
- In San Marcos, Rolando López Crisóstomo was appointed as a substitute
- In Santa Rosa, Allan Javier Melgar Solares was appointed as alternate governor
