Players have found a rather surprising trick to indefinitely obtain a buff for Astarion, one of the community’s favorite companions.

The Vampire of Baldur’s Gate

During your wanderings on Baldur’s Gate III, you will quickly meet Astarion, a cynical and oh so charming high elf. This character is a rogue who will prove very useful for the rest of your adventures, in particular thanks to his skills in lockpicking and defusing traps.

As we progress, as with each character in the game, Astarion gradually begins to reveal his past. At this point, it’s no secret – it was also sufficiently explicit with Larian’s communication – Astarion is a vampire enslaved by a terrible master who can now wander in the light of day thanks to his larva.

The character reveals this to you early enough in the game (he ends up saying it one way or another) and he then asks you to provide him with blood. Yours, more precisely. From then on, you can offer him something to eat during each long rest. A process beneficial for Astarion, but much less interesting for you. Except that players have just found a solution capable of satisfying everyone.

Licking stones, literally

Each time Astarion drinks your blood, he gains the “happy” status until the next long rest, granting him a +1 bonus to all attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks. . A bonus which can be very useful, but which is necessarily obtained in return for your energy. In fact, following each refresh, your character obtains the “bloodless” state which gives you a penalty of -1 to the same rolls. This condition can be cured with a cleric or paladin spell, but it therefore necessarily costs a spell slot, which is not ideal before setting off on an adventure.

Truth be told, Astarion’s “happy” bonus is not a requirement and can even be obtained by biting human enemies. But if you ever want to get the benefits without the disadvantages otherwise, know that there is an alternative… strange.

During Act III, it is possible to meet a character at the circus who will offer to immortalize your portrait with a statue. For 5000 gold coins – a pittance at this stage of the adventure – you will obtain a statue of yourself, which you can find in your camp. This statue has one main advantage, that of granting you a blessing following each long rest.

So you get a permanent buff, but where it’s even more interesting is that Astarion can feed by “biting” her. Obviously, its fangs are strong enough to pierce the rock and absorb all the good minerals there. Given the bug-like nature of this trick, it is likely that Larian will decide to remove it soon. But if you’re currently in the middle of Act III, don’t hesitate to take advantage of it.
