The alarming figures of “jettomania”

According to a study by the Vinci Autoroutes foundation, more than a quarter of French people (27%) admit to throwing waste out of the window of their vehicle. This proportion reaches 42% among those under 35, an increase of six points compared to the previous year. These figures, stable for the population as a whole, increase among young people.

The jet of cigarette butts is not left out. Almost one in four smokers (24%) has this bad habit. Among those under 35, this percentage rises to 39%. These behaviors vary by region. Ile-de-France and the Grand Est unfortunately stand out with nearly 40% of smokers throwing their cigarette butts out the window. Conversely, in Corsica, Occitanie and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, regions affected by the fires, the fact of throwing this type of waste is less marked.

Waste: Awareness and awareness

Despite these behaviors, 57% of French people feel guilty for throwing waste out the window, and 19% feel ashamed.. The presence of a loved one seems to be an effective brake: 82% of respondents claim that they would refrain from littering in the presence of a loved one. Moreover, 72% of French people are ready to take back a loved one with this behavior.

Faced with this “jettomania”, the Vinci Autoroutes Foundation has launched an awareness campaign once morest litter. A necessary initiative to raise awareness and hope to see these figures decrease in the future. Indeed, this bad habit is a real scourge. On the one hand, it is terribly harmful to the fauna and flora, when you know that it takes a plastic bag to fall apart. On the other hand, in this summer period, the risk of fire caused by a cigarette butt increases dramatically.. The problem is such that the declaration of a fire because of a discarded cigarette incurs a penalty of up to 6 months in jail. Finally, road cleaning represents a significant budget for the companies in charge of this mission.
