“The good news is that in Portugal we see that it took regarding four weeks before reaching the peak. (In Belgium) we are in the 3rd week”: the Walloon Minister of Health Christie Morreale indicated on Thursday at the microphone de La Première (RTBF, radio) that we are indeed in a “wave” with the BA5 form of the coronavirus, but that there is no cause for alarm. The message remains the same: you have to “be careful” and “protect yourself” to avoid severe forms of the disease, making sure you have had the full vaccination (3 or even 4 doses), especially if you are one of those fragile (elderly people, comorbidities, etc.), summarizes the minister. In this context, wearing a mask is “a matter of common sense” to be managed according to the circumstances (it is recommended in a populated place without ventilation), she adds.
Are we heading for a new vaccination booster for the general population? “The most likely is that we are moving towards a booster vaccination around the fall, for the elderly, the sick, the nursing staff, etc. So not a massive vaccination. But we are awaiting the opinion of the Superior Health Council, in the coming days”, says Christie Morreale.
