Global travel bookings exceed 2019 levels
According to the latest data from Trip.com, global travel bookings for this summer (June 1-August 31) have surpassed 2019 levels, with overall bookings up 170% year-on-year, with Asian bookings surging year-on-year 356%, and the European market also increased by 72% year-on-year.

Tourists mainly travel to short-haul regions, and the bookings of short-haul flights account for 44% and 67% of the total bookings in Asia and Europe respectively. On the other hand, the proportion of long-distance summer travel in Europe dropped sharply from 48% in 2019 to 13% this year, while in Asia it rose slightly from 22% in 2019 to 27%.

The data also released the top 10 summer travel destinations preferred by tourists, and the cities with the highest bookings by tourists in Asia include Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taipei. Nine out of ten cities with the highest number of bookings by European tourists are European cities, such as London, Barcelona, Madrid and Paris. Bangkok is the only tourist destination outside of Europe on the list.
