The aim of the initiative, which is in its fifth edition in France, is also to reduce the social costs and risks associated with alcohol consumption: liver diseases, cancers, stroke, but also hospitalizations induced by accidents and violence due to “drinking”. Fortunately, alcohol consumption has declined significantly in France since the 1960s. Long before the Dry January trend. But the latest figures, dating from 2022, still reveal an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous year. A figure which is mainly explained by the progression of beer.
