- The countries of the European Union managed, on Tuesday, to an agreement on a reduction in gas consumption this winter, so as to reduce their dependence on Moscow, following the new severe drop in Russian deliveries. Russian gas giant Gazprom is to halve its daily deliveries to Europe via the Nord Stream gas pipeline from today. Global stock markets fell on Tuesday, worried regarding gas supplies to Europe and the consequences of inflation on Western economies in the midst of corporate results.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has tabled a motion to appoint Andriy Kostina deputy from the President’s political party, in the post of country attorney general. M. Zelensky a soumis a formal request to Parliament for the Assembly to vote to confirm this appointment. He would replace Iryna Venediktova, dismissed as attorney general earlier this month.
- Ukrainian strikes partially destroyed, on Tuesday evening, the Antonovskiy bridge in the suburbs of Kherson, a city occupied by Russian forces, the occupation authorities announced on Wednesday. This Antonovski bridge is strategic for supplies, as it is the only one connecting the city to the southern bank of the Dnieper and the rest of the Kherson region.
- Kharkivthe second city of Ukraine, located in the northeast of the country, was hit by a Russian rocket attack, according to the mayor of the city. “At 4.25 a.m. the industrial district of Kharkiv was shelled [par] two S-300 missiles. Rescuers are on hand to sort out the debris. According to them, there are no casualties, but this is only preliminary information”wrote Ihor Terekhov on Telegram.
- A BakhmoutRussian forces have targeted a hotel, announces the governor of Donetsk, Pavlo Kyrylenko. “According to preliminary information, there are dead and injured, the rescue operation continues”and specified by M. Kyrylenko sur Telegram.
- The Russian economy is less penalized than expected by the sanctions, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced on Tuesday. Russia’s gross domestic product is expected to contract by 6% in 2022, the IMF predicts, much less than the 8.5% plunge the institution was expecting in its previous forecasts published in April. European countries, on the other hand, are suffering more than expected, notes the IMF.
