Does humanity have the means to protect the earth from these dangers?
Scientists say that an asteroid collision destroying life on our green planet is a rare event. But it is neither unlikely nor impossible, for one simple reason, because it actually happened 66 million years ago and led to the extinction of existence and life on Earth during which the dinosaurs disappeared. Also, the Earth records every day and every hour the fall of small particles from space.
Sophisticated space agencies in developed countries constantly and continuously monitor every movement in space and track every object that moves outside the atmosphere, and there are many solutions offered to confront any potential collision, including sending missiles and projectiles into space to detonate any comet or asteroid that threatens life on Earth.
Is the possibility of a collision between Earth and an asteroid a scientific fact or just a fantasy? Does humanity have the means to protect the earth from these dangers?
In an exciting and interesting episode with Dr. Hanna Sabbat, the former director of the Institute of Astronomy and Space Sciences at Al al-Bayt University in Jordan, Khadija Ben Qena discusses the possibilities of Earth colliding with an asteroid and the repercussions of that and how the green planet can be protected from this devastating danger.
