Archbishop Gabriele Cacha, Permanent Observer of the Holy See, made the statement at the opening of the Practical Group on Disarmament Commission Techniques at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Archbishop Tanera began his statement by quoting Pope Francis saying that “our immense technological development does not detract from the necessary development of human responsibility, values ​​and conscience. The risks of emerging technologies will have global consequences, and therefore the cooperation of nations with international organizations is essential.”

The archbishop pointed out that real progress can only be found in the application of technologies that ensure justice and peace without creating inequalities and conflicts. He said that human dignity is the central concept as this practical group strives to foster transparency and trust between nations in this regard.

The archbishop also called for ensuring responsible use of weapons systems to eliminate the damage caused by them.
