The ARBÖ announces another weekend full of traffic jams. According to ARBÖ, the reason for this is two waves of travel, “Masters of Dirt” in Graz and the “Judas Priest” concert in Vienna.
Vienna (OTS) – The fact that Good Friday is a nationwide holiday in Germany, unlike Austria, gives its northern neighbors four days off. Similar to Austria, where one day of vacation also means four days off, many will take the opportunity to take a short vacation to the ski resorts or to the Mediterranean. Therefore, the ARBÖ traffic experts are expecting the first wave of travel of the Easter weekend on Maundy Thursday from the followingnoon hours. On the one hand, the city exits from the federal capital and the state capitals will certainly be affected, as well as Altmannsdorfer Strasse, Triester Strasse and the west exit in Vienna, Kärntner Strasse and Merangasse as well as Plüddemanngasse in Graz, the Ebelsberg bypass in Linz or Vogelweiderstrasse and Sterneckstrasse in Salzburg. On the other hand, progress will be very slow at times on the following transit routes until later in the evening:
· Fernpass-Straße (B179), along the entire route, probably block clearance before the Lermoosertunnel and Vils/Füssen border tunnel
· Inntalautobahn (A12), in the greater Innsbruck area and before the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border
· Mühlkreisautobahn (A7), in the city of Linz
· Pyhrnautobahn (A9), around Graz
· Southern motorway (A2) between Vienna and the Guntramsdorf junction as well as between Laßnitzhöhe and Lieboch and on the Klagenfurt northern bypass
· Southeast tangent (A23) throughout
· Tauernautobahn (A10), in front of the construction site area between Golling andwerfen
· Westautobahn (A1), between Vienna and the Steinhäusl junction as well as around Linz and Salzburg
Expect long waiting times at the motorway border crossings in Kufstein/Kiefersfelden (A12), Suben (A8), and Walserberg (A1) when entering Austria. Before the border points of the Karawankentunnel on the Karawankenautobahn (A11), Nickelsdorf on the A4 and Hügelplatz (A9), the exit will probably also take significantly longer.
Good Friday will be a weaker reflection of the previous day in terms of congestion and delays on much the same routes. According to the ARBÖ, Holy Saturday, like Easter Sunday, will bring quieter traffic on the transit routes. Only excursion traffic for day skiers will cause some delays. In Vorarlberg, in addition to the Arlberg expressway (S16), there will also be traffic jams on the Rhine Valley motorway (A14) between the exit in Montafon and the Arlberg tunnel. Progress will also be slow at times on the Silvrettastraße (L188) in Montafon and in the Bregenzerwald on the state road of the same name (L200). In Tyrol, drivers in the Zillertal on the B169 should expect traffic jams and blockages in front of the Brettfall Tunnel. A similar picture might also emerge on the B179 and in the greater Kitzbühel area and on the roads in Ötztal and Pitztal until midday. Salzburg drivers should allow for a longer journey time in the city of Zell am See on Pinzgauer Straße (B311), the alternative route to the closed Schmittentunnel. In Styria, a time cushion might be a good companion on the Ennstalstrasse (B320) near Liezen and Schladming.
On Easter Monday and sometimes on Tuesday it’s “goodbye Easter holidays” for the students from Austria and “goodbye short vacation” for many adults from home and Germany. The return journey and thus the second big wave of travel of the weekend will also affect the routes mentioned above. “Whether the traffic jams start in the early or late followingnoon depends to a large extent on the weather. “The nicer the weather, the later people drive,” says ARBÖ traffic expert Thomas Haider.
Zwtl.: “Masters of Dirt” bring a full city hall to Graz
Fans of flying BMX bikes, motocross machines, scooters and snowmobiles are in the right place on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in the Graz town hall. “Masters of Dirt” will be performing in the Styrian capital at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Many of the fans will probably arrive on motorized vehicles. Therefore, there will be longer delays before and following the shows, especially on Conrad-von-Hötzendorf-Straße, Jakomini Belt and Münzgrabenstraße. “If you want to save yourself the trouble of finding a parking space, you should go to the parking garage and the parking spaces at the exhibition center or nearby. Event flat rates of EUR 6 or EUR 8 apply here. If you want to travel by public transport, you can do so with tram lines 4, 5 and 6,” said the ARBÖ transport experts.
Zwtl.: “Judas Priest” brings tens of thousands to Wiener Stadthalle
Fans of “well-groomed” heavy metal bands are in the right place on Easter Monday in the Wiener Stadthalle. “Judas Priest” will perform in Hall D from 7 p.m. Songs like “Love Bites” or “Breaking the Law” will attract thousands of visitors to the 15th district. “The traffic jam warnings apply on Hütteldorfer Straße, Neubaugurtel and in the Nibelungenviertel, as at all major events. Parking spaces for residents should also be off-limits, except for those who are authorized to do so. Park in the Stadthalle garage or Märzparkgarage. Arriving and departing with subway line 6 and the tram lines that stop at Urban-Loritz-Platz or bus line 48 should be considered,” advises ARBÖ expert Thomas Haider in conclusion.
