ARBÖ: The start of the holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg + the end of the holidays in Saxony and Thuringia bring temporary highlights to the trip

Vienna(OTS) “2024 summer traffic jam” will reach its peak next weekend. According to ARBÖ, the reason is that about 3.2 million school children in the German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have begun holidays. For some 770,000 compatriots from Saxony and Thuringia, it’s time to go back to school next week. The 39th annual American Football Austria Bowl game intensified the traffic jam.

The ultimate travel day this weekend will again be Saturday. There will be long delays on classic traffic-choked routes from Friday night into Saturday night. Traffic congestion is likely to continue into the late afternoon on Saturday. The ARBÖ Information Service predicts that the places with the longest traffic jams are:

  • West Autobahn (A1), in the Greater Salzburg Area
  • Innkreis motorway (A8), construction site area between Ried and Ort
  • Pyhrnautobahn (A9), in front of the two-way traffic area between Inzersdorf and Klaus, between Treglwang and Trieben, and in front of the construction site in front of the Hügel/Sentilj border
  • Tauern Autobahn (A10), between Salzburg and Hallein, in front of the Tauern Tunnel, the Kachberg Tunnel and the Villach junction
  • Karawanken Motorway (A11), the entire route, especially in front of the Karawanken Tunnel
  • Inntalautobahn (A12), Grosskufstein region and Gross Innsbruck region
  • Brenner Autobahn (A13) between Innsbruck and Matre and in front of Brenner
  • Fernpass Straße (B179), Lermoser and the entire route before the Weers/Füssen border tunnel have block clearances
  • Seefelder Straße (B177), in front of the Zirler Berg construction site

ARBÖ expects traffic jams in neighboring countries

  • On the A8 between Munich and Salzburg
  • On the A93 highway between the Inntaldreieck junction and the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border
  • On the Italian A22 (Brenner Motorway) between Brenner and Trento
  • On the Italian A4 (Autostrada Serenissima) between Trieste and Venice
  • Drive along the Italian A23 (Autostrada Alpe Adria) throughout the journey
  • Slovenia A1 and A2 roads

ARBÖ Tips: If possible, avoid the upcoming weekend as a travel weekend on transit routes. If not possible: Traffic should be calmer early Friday afternoon and Sunday morning. Please note the driving ban on transit traffic in Salzburg and Tyrol. Experts at the ARBÖ Information Service Center can provide information. Be prepared for possible traffic jams by filling up your gas tank or fully charging your electric vehicle, having plenty of non-alcoholic drinks, light meals such as fruits and vegetables, and distracting passengers. The bottom line: keep a cool head and be patient, even in heavy traffic. It is strongly recommended not to rush to make up for “lost time”. Better late than never.
