For the first time, the motorway vignette will not be more expensive in the coming year. The ARBÖ welcomes this measure, but calls for further relief.
Vienna (OTS) – Mobility is a basic human need and necessary in order to be able to participate in social life or to get to work. Around half of all journeys are made in their own vehicle, which means that people are currently confronted with extremely high mobility costs. “The ARBÖ therefore welcomes the anti-inflation measures that have now been decided, which do not provide for an increase in the motorway vignette and the climate ticket. This supports the owners of around five million cars that are registered in Austria,” says KommR Mag. Gerald Kumnig on the occasion of the announcement by the federal government.
For the ARBÖ, however, this measure can only be a first step, as Kumnig goes on to explain: “On January 1st, 2024, the CO2 price will be raised. If you want to relieve commuters, families and all people who depend on the car in the long term, CO2 pricing must also be suspended or at least not increased. Otherwise the savings on the vignette, which does not become more expensive, are just a drop in the ocean. And we also have to remind you that as of January 1st, the calculation of other motor vehicle taxes such as the standard consumption tax and the motor-related insurance tax when buying new vehicles will become stricter and therefore more expensive in most cases,” concludes KommR Mag. Gerald Kumnig .
