Arbel came out against Ben Gvir who said: “I would build a synagogue on the Temple Mount”; Netanyahu’s Office: There is no change in the status quo

An uproar erupted following the words of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir who said this morning (Monday) during an interview with Galz that there is a change in policy on the Temple Mount that allows Jews to pray there and added: “I would build a synagogue there.”

Following the remarks, Interior Minister Moshe Arbel of Shas attacked and said: “Prime Minister Netanyahu must act immediately to put Mr. Ben Gabir in his place, as he also said this morning regarding the Temple Mount. His irresponsible words put to the test Israel’s strategic alliances with Muslim countries that form a coalition in the fight against the Iranian axis of evil. His lack of intelligence may lead to bloodshed.’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office was also quick to disavow the words: “There is no change in the status quo on the Temple Mount.”

Defense Minister Yoav Galant said: “Challenging the status quo on the Temple Mount is dangerous, unnecessary and irresponsible. Ben Gabir’s actions endanger the national security of the State of Israel and its international standing. The action he carried out yesterday to curb the Hezbollah attack strengthened the State of Israel. Ben Gabir’s statements – They weaken us.”

The chairman of the state camp, Benny Gantz, wrote on his X account: “No one has any expectations from Minister Ben Gabir, not even from the Prime Minister who lets his irresponsible leader take us to the abyss in exchange for political peace. But there are also responsible parties in this government and in the coalition, that the people expect you to take action. Condemnations and nice words will not be enough here, and history will judge you for being part of this dangerous journey.”

“The indefatigable flatterer of the left, Moshe Arbel, who was condemned by Ben Caspit and the extreme left, has been disaffected from the day he entered the Knesset to the position of Chief Justice. He is a tireless flatterer, to the left, to the Arabs, to the judicial system, and in the case of the Temple Mount, to Hamas and the Waqf as well,” they attacked in response around Ben Gvir . “His constant accusation against Jews creates a security risk. Shas voters chose the right and accepted Moshe Meretz Arbel.”

“Any change in the sestus quo on the Temple Mount, with an emphasis on wartime, should be carried out professionally in the cabinet along with an examination of all the implications,” said Education Minister Yoav Kish. “The irresponsible statement of Minister Ben Gabir in the media on this issue is unnecessary and stupid populist.”

These things come after about two weeks ago Ben Gabir went up to the Temple Mount again alongside Minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf – this is against the official status quo policy. “I am the political echelon and the political echelon allows Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount,” he said at a conference to encourage the ascent to the mountain held in the Knesset in July.
