The project aims to strengthen the preparation of the national team “Aras” and VST to properly respond to possible terrorist acts, during which hostages may be taken or explosives may be used.
The aim is also to strengthen preparations for the localization of a terrorist act, the release of hostages, the reduction of threats, and the security of critical infrastructure facilities, the Police Department announced on Monday.
The project to strengthen the capacities of officials was launched in September and will last more than two years, it will be financed with the funds of the 2021-2027 program of the Internal Security Fund.
In the course of the project, specialized equipment will be purchased for conducting combat operations in water (at sea), boarding ships, diving operations and other anti-terrorist operations in Lithuanian territorial waters.
“Purchasing specialized equipment will ensure the effectiveness of special anti-terrorist operations, increase the safety of hostages, the public and officers, improve the working conditions of officers, and protect the health and life of officers,” says the Police Department.
The estimated budget of the project is 358 thousand. 191 euros.
268 thousand 643 euros are the funds of the European Union, and 89 thousand. 547 euros – co-financing funds.
