STAND up comedian Arafah Rianti admitted that his goal in learning stand up comedy was initially to build his self-confidence and be able to speak in public. He did this while he was still studying at the State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta.

“I took up stand-up comedy because I mightn’t speak in front of people. I’m studying at UIN, I confided in my friend that I was shaking like that when I gave a presentation. Then he said just join in with stand up. “Finally I joined stand up Depok,” he said when interviewed by Wendi Cagur on his YouTube account.

“He held (the event) in a cafe, the coffee was expensive, like IDR 30 thousand. Then they said whoever wanted to go up would buy them coffee. I went up (on stage) because I wanted coffee. After that, people laughed, right? I just think it’s normal. I said why are people laughing? It’s really funny for me. I said that. “The next day I was told to come once more until I was included in the Depok stand-up group,” continued Arafah.

The woman, who is currently 26 years old, added that some time later, she had the courage to compete in the talent search event, namely the Stand Up Comedy Academy (SUCA).

In this competition, Arafah managed to get second place and was also known by the wider community followingwards. However, he felt pressured because many people thought that he mightn’t actually do stand-up comedy.

“Then I’m sad because many people say Arafah can’t stand up like that. But now I realize that I can’t stand up anymore. I’m really scared when I’m asked to stand up. If there is a TV show, ask Arafah to stand up for 2 minutes. I don’t want to. The thing is, I’m afraid of stand up, I’ve forgotten the theory. “The last time I did stand up at Stand Up Fest it was also because it wouldn’t feel good (if I didn’t perform),” he said.

Family support

Arafah also shared regarding his family. He feels grateful because he has a family who always supports whatever he wants to do.

In fact, amidst the phenomenon of the sandwich generation or children who have to support their parents, Arafah feels that his parents have never done something similar and do not want to ask for anything from their children.

“My family is really exciting, Betawi families think that they just have good fortune. So you are never confused regarding thinking regarding your fortune. My father and mother never asked for anything from me either. Like I want to give you a car. They said it wasn’t necessary. “How come there are still motorbikes, he said,” said Arafah.

“I wanted to renovate the house, they said no, instead they told me to just buy a house, they were just comfortable with it. “My father even built a catfish pond and chicken coop for his living,” he concluded.
