The work of the second joint ministerial meeting between Arab countries and small island developing States of the Pacific, at the level of foreign ministers, started on Monday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
“The meeting is an ideal opportunity to discuss political, economic and cultural partnerships between the Arab world and the Pacific countries, and to exchange views on the problems and challenges facing our two regions,” said the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
“Saudi Arabia looks forward to advancing common interests with Pacific island countries and enhancing cooperation in the areas of security, energy, trade, investment and logistic”.
In this same context, he assured that Saudi Arabia is working to join the Pacific Islands Forum as a dialogue partner.
In June 2010, the first ministerial meeting between Arab countries and Pacific island countries was held in the United Arab Emirates.
Pacific island countries include, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Niue, Federated States of Micronesia, Palau and Cook Islands .
