The Arab League called for the adoption of a UN resolution opposing Israel’s move to ban the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating in the country.

The meeting demanded in its decision that representatives of Arab countries in New York coordinate with ambassadors and representatives of friendly countries and the UN Secretariat to request the convening of a special session of the UN General Assembly.

“Because it was the body that issued the decision to establish UNRWA, to discuss the serious impact of this Israeli law and to issue a UN resolution rejecting this illegal Israeli action,” the Arab League statement said.

Meanwhile, Russia considers Israel’s decision to ban the activities of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to violate international law.

“The adoption of this bill (by the Israeli parliament) not only violates international law, including decisions of the UN General Assembly and the UN Charter, but also contradicts the conditions of Israel’s entry into the UN,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
