Tunisia and seven other Arab countries have committed alongside other countries around the world to tripling the world’s renewable energy production capacity, to 11,000 gigawatts, by 2030, as part of ongoing negotiations as part of the 28th UN Climate Conference of the Parties (COP 28), held from November 30 to December 12, 2023 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
According to information published Monday by the international non-governmental environmental protection organization, Greenpeace, 117 countries around the world have signed up to this commitment, including the eight Arab countries (Tunisia, Morocco, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates), which reflects a determination to strengthen and accelerate the transition to clean renewable energy in the Middle East and North Africa region.
