Arab condemnations of the Israeli attack on Yemen and warnings of its regional repercussions

Yemen – Several Arab countries have condemned the Israeli air strikes on Yemen, warning of their repercussions on the security situation in the region and efforts to end the 10-month-old Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Tel Aviv launched air strikes on the port of Hodeidah in western Yemen on Saturday evening, targeting fuel tanks and a power station, killing 6 people, leaving 3 others missing and injuring 83 people, according to the Houthi group.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the strikes as a response to a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv early Friday, which killed one Israeli and wounded 10 others.

For its part, Algeria strongly condemned yesterday, Sunday, the Israeli aggression on the Yemeni province of Hodeidah, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and not allow Israel to escape accountability and punishment.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on social media that the Israeli attacks, which left 6 dead, 3 missing and 83 wounded, are part of an escalation strategy aimed at extending Israel’s hegemony over the region and diverting attention from its crimes in Gaza and Palestine.

Algeria pointed out that Israel continues to defy the international community and global condemnations, and that the international community must assume its responsibilities and prevent Israel from escaping punishment.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed its deep concern about the military escalation in Yemen following the Israeli attacks, stressing that these strikes increase tension in the region and harm ongoing efforts to end the war on the Gaza Strip.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, stressing the need for the international community and influential and effective parties to assume their roles and responsibilities to end conflicts in the region. It also affirmed its continued efforts to end the war on Gaza and its support for peace efforts in Yemen.

Meanwhile, Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman condemned the unprecedented Israeli attacks on Yemen, noting that they would further deteriorate the security situation in the region and undermine international efforts to end conflicts.

Kuwait stressed its continued support for efforts to achieve security and stability in Yemen, and to spare its brotherly people further suffering.

The Sultanate called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to maintain regional security and peace and take decisive action to protect the arrival of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Egypt warned, on Saturday evening, of the dangers of expanding the scope of the conflict in the region due to developments in the war on Gaza, and called on all parties to exercise self-restraint and calm down to avoid regional chaos.

She stressed that the ceasefire in Gaza is the main step to contain the tension and achieve comprehensive calm in the region.

In solidarity with Gaza, the Houthis target Israeli cargo ships or ships linked to Tel Aviv in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean with missiles and drones, and they also attack targets inside Israel.
