Apucv demands the release of detained university teachers and students

The Association of Professors of the Central University of Venezuela (Apucv) demanded the release of one of its members, as well as six students of that institution who are among the more than 2,400 detainees, some arrested in protests and others in their residences.

Through X, the union stated that Professor Salvador Rivera, associated with the university’s School of Psychology, is one of those arrested, as is the sextet of UCV students, about whom it did not provide further details.

“We demand the immediate and full freedom of all those arrested,” stressed the APUCV, which called for an activity next Thursday inside the university, together with relatives of the people who were arrested after the elections of July 28, labeled by the Government as “terrorists.”

Of the total of 2,400 arrests reported by the Executive, the NGO Foro Penal – which leads the defense of those considered political prisoners in the country – has verified 1,303, including 116 adolescents, 170 women, 14 indigenous people and 16 people with disabilities.

The protests were marked by acts of violence and vandalism, resulting in 24 civilian deaths – according to the NGO Provea – as well as two military personnel deaths and nearly a hundred security agents injured.
