The Association of Professors of the Central University of Venezuela (APUCV) called for the release of Professor Salvador Rivera and six students from that university detained by Venezuelan authorities.
“It is urgent to reestablish the rule of law in Venezuela. We demand the immediate and full freedom of all those detained, in particular the six UCV students and Professor Salvador Rivera of the UCV School of Psychology,” the association wrote on August 11 through its account on the social network X.
On August 6, the Board of Directors of the UCV Professors Association issued a statement demanding respect for the right to free expression of thought and peaceful protest.
The UCV teachers’ association also joined the call for a meeting with the relatives of the people who have been arrested in the protests that took place after the elections of July 28 of this year.
This rally was called by the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) Foro Penal and the Venezuelan Program for Education-Action in Human Rights (Provea) and will take place on Thursday, August 15th starting at 9:00 am in the APUCV auditorium (100 meters from the Ciudad Universitaria Caracas Metro station).
The purpose of this meeting is to provide legal advice to the relatives of people who have been arrested by the Venezuelan authorities after the presidential elections.
The Penal Forum has been in charge of keeping a daily record of the people detained in Venezuela as a result of the protests that have been presented against the results announced by the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, who declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the electoral contest.
The figures of detainees of the Penal Forum
Foro Penal reported that a total of 1,315 people have been arrested in the country following the presidential elections on July 28. This information corresponds to data collected by the organization until 8:00 am on August 12.
Among the arrests verified and identified by the NGO, 117 correspond to adolescents, 14 people belonging to indigenous communities and 177 women.
Foro Penal has set up two telephone numbers and an email address so that people who are aware of cases of arrest by the Venezuelan State in the context of the post-election protests that have taken place in the country can make their complaints in this regard.

Amnesty International calls on the ICC to issue a statement on Venezuela
Amnesty International urged the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, to Take action against crimes against humanity in Venezuela which have increased “in scale and severity” since the presidential elections.
Erika Guevara Rosas, the organization’s senior director of research, advocacy, policy and campaigns, said in an open letter to the ICC that prosecutor Khan’s silence on the situation in Venezuela is “alarming.”
“Your Prosecutor’s Office has witnessed the death of dozens of people at the hands of security forces and pro-government armed groups, as well as the arbitrary detention of more than two thousand people in just a few days, simply for opposing or being perceived as opposing the government of Nicolás Maduro,” Guevara Rosas said in a statement. Open letter published on August 9.
