Aptiv inaugurates its 1st factory in Oujda, 7th factory in Morocco

Aptiv officially launches its activities within its new production plant in Oujda, which becomes the 7th production site and the 10th activity site of the Aptiv Group in Morocco, thus consolidating the place of the Kingdom in the Regional dynamics of the Aptiv Group. This plant will eventually accommodate more than 3,000 direct jobs.

The inauguration ceremony was held on site at the Oujda plant in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Mr. Nizar Baraka , the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mohamed Sadiki, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Ms. Leila Benali, the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, Ms. Aawatif Hayar, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and the Evaluation of Public Policies, Mr. Mohcine Jazouli, the Wali of the Oriental Region, Governor of the Oujda-Angad Prefecture, Mr. Mouaad Jamai, the President of the Council of the Oriental Region, Mr. Abdenbi Biioui and representatives of local authorities and public administrations, professional chambers.

The inauguration began with the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by words of welcome from the Aptiv team, the Minister of Industry and Trade, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies and Mr. the Wali of the Oriental Region. A tour of the plant was then organized for the guests to meet the employees and learn regarding the plant’s facilities and activities.

Located in the Free Zone of Oujda on 8 hectares of land, adjoining the airport, the construction of the plant required an investment of 394 million dirhams. It was designed to be “eco-friendly”, in line with Aptiv’s commitment to Zero Carbon by 2040. The manufacturing materials and equipment (insulation panels, solar panels, etc.) will reduce consequent consumption of water and electricity.

This plant is the first automotive industry to set up in the Oriental region with a view to boosting economic and industrial activity in the region.

Launched on January 24, 2022, the construction site was completed in March 2023, in full compliance with the deadlines stipulated in the Investment Agreement.

Mezzour underlined “Today’s inauguration is part of the Royal Initiative for the development of the Oriental region. This is a first project in the automotive industry that reflects the region’s ability to attract world leaders and paves the way for new investments that create wealth and jobs for young people”.
