New Delhi> The hearing has started on the petition against the Supreme Court collegium recommendation to appoint Victoria Gauri as a judge. The hearing on the petition against the appointment of Victoria, who is also a BJP Mahila Morcha leader, as an additional judge of the Madras High Court is being heard through a special sitting of the Supreme Court. A bench comprising Janjeevi Khanna and BR Gavai is hearing the case. The bench chaired by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was initially informed that the petition would be considered at 9.15 am. The central government’s hasty decision to appoint Gauri as a judge comes at a time when the Supreme Court is hearing a plea seeking disqualification of Gauri, who is under the shadow of allegations of hate speech against Christian and Muslim communities.
