Rima Abdul Malak, Minister of Culture, following consultation with the partner local authorities, the Regional Council of Occitanie, the City of Perpignan and the urban community Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole, gives its approval to the appointment of Jackie Surjus-Collet as director of the Théâtre de l’Archipel, national stage of Perpignan.

At the end of the selection process, the board of directors of the Public Establishment for Cultural Cooperation (EPCC) Théâtre de l’Archipel, meeting on April 28, 2023, deliberated in favor of Jackie Surjus-Collet for the direction of the establishment.

While it is customary for appointments to head labeled stages to result from a unanimous decision by all the partners, Jackie Surjus-Collet’s project was selected without consensus. In this unprecedented context, the Minister has mandated the General Inspectorate of Cultural Affairs (IGAC) for a flash mission, in order to gather its insight on the situation.

The IGAC has confirmed that Jackie Surjus-Collet, whose professional career had sufficiently convinced all the partners to be included in the pre-selection, has the ability to ensure the management of the Archipelago and to lead quality programming. .

However, in view of the concerns and difficulties that have long affected the functioning of the national scene, the IGAC submitted several recommendations, in particular the continuation of a management support system for a period of at least twelve months. , in particular on issues of management and reorganization of the establishment. This condition now makes it possible to reach an agreement between all the partners to calm the situation, confirm the appointment of Jackie Surjus-Collet and provide him with the necessary support for the deployment of his missions.

Jackie Surjus-Collet led her professional career in Perpignan, holding various positions at the music conservatory and then at the Center Art Musique, before becoming deputy director of the Archipel, national scene of Perpignan, then acting director following the departure of the previous director. , Borja Sitja. In particular, she developed Today Musica widely recognized festival of sound and visual creations, conceived as a crossroads of exchanges and transmission, which offers an opening to hybrid musical forms and encourages the arrival of new audiences.

His project for the Archipelago brings together six artists who will be hosted in residence and supported for their productions: the choreographer and director, Mehdi Kerkouche with the Emka company, the director, Julie Deliquet with the In Vitro collective, the director stage, David Gauchard with the Unijambiste company, the conductor, Zahia Ziouani and her Divertimento orchestra, the slammer and singer, Walid Ben Selim, as well as the composer and percussionist, Lucie Antunes. They will participate in the life of the national scene and in the development of its presence on the regional territory.

Several events will punctuate the program: Today Music in November, a festival on urban dances in the spring and a highlight dedicated to young audiences in June, around the art of puppetry, in partnership with Le Périscope in Nîmes.

Youth will be a priority of Jackie Surjus-Collet’s project, with the aim of accompanying children towards the discovery of artists allowing them to understand the diversity of representations of the world, to develop their sensitivity and critical thinking. The cultural activities carried out by the national scene in the districts of the city policy will be developed.

In 2023, the Ministry of Culture reinforced its support for the Archipelago, increasing its subsidy by 20% and adding exceptional aid of €20,000 to help meet rising energy costs.
