From now on, you can complete the entire application process through the Hong Kong Government One-Stop website. The fee is still $80. The next step is to send it by registered post. Many Hong Kong people like to travel by car. They don’t have to catch trains or buses, and it is less stressful. It is most convenient for family travel. The scenery along the way is beautiful, but if you want to prepare for international travel, you really need to stay a whole day to prepare. Go get in line! Recently, the Transport Department finally launched an online application service for international driving permits. “Smart Convenience+” users or eligible applicants holding valid personal digital certificates can complete the entire application process through the Hong Kong Government One Stop website.

Online application conditions
1/Must be a Hong Kong ID card holder
2/And holders of official Hong Kong driving licenses that are valid or expired for not more than 3 years (subject to the date of application)
Prepare documents when submitting your application
1/Have a “Smart Convenience+” account with the digital signature function enabled or a valid personal digital certificate issued by a recognized certification authority (such as Hong Kong Post) for identity verification.
2/ A JPG or JPEG image file of a new recent frontal photo. The background of the photo should be without any decoration, and the head should not be wearing a hat or other similar items. Image file size cannot exceed 5MB.
3/Image file of current address proof, and the address proof must be issued no more than 3 months from the date of submission of application.
4/Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, JCB or UnionPay) or FPS for online payment, the application fee is HK$80.

After successful application, you will receive a confirmation notice. It is recommended to print or save the application details, or write down the reference number. The Transport Department will send the International Driving Permit by registered mail to the registered correspondence address within 10 working days. There is no need to go to the Licensing Office in person during the whole process, thus avoiding long queues. If you have not received the relevant international driving permit within 4 weeks following submitting the application, you can call 2804 2600 for enquiry.
