For a new year, the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality, Sernatur and BancoEstado announced the opening of applications for the fifteenth version of the Female Tourism Entrepreneur (MET) contest, an initiative that recognizes and rewards outstanding entrepreneurs in the tourism sector since 2011. This was announced on Tuesday morning by the Seremi of Women and Gender Equality of Ñuble, Constanza Sánchez, together with the Regional Director of Sernatur, Augusto González, representatives of the banking entity and the regional winner of the MET 2023.
Now in 2024, the competition will reward the commitment of two tourism entrepreneurs who adopt internal policies and guarantee decent work and the safety of their workers. The prizes will be $2,500,000 for each one and an audiovisual kit, material that will help them continue to position their businesses on digital platforms.
The regional minister Constanza Sánchez indicated that “today, as the Ministry of Women, together with Sernatur and Banco Estado, we are very happy with what this contest, which is now more than a decade old, has shown, because tourism not only reactivates female employment, but also contributes to the economic situation in the regions, and a faithful reflection of this are the regional winners that we have had in previous versions, such as Mrs. Rosa Orellana from Cobquecura, National Winner with her restaurant Reina Marina in 2021; Otilia Palma also from Cobquecura, regional winner in 2022 with her Foodtruck Linda Esperanza; or Pamela Muñoz who is with us today, regional winner from last year with her Cabañas Nativa de San Fabián. Without a doubt, through their ventures, they have grown their businesses, contributing with their knowledge and skills to the development of tourism in the region, strengthening female leadership in this sector,” she said, highlighting that “the focus of the contest this year allows us to identify those businesswomen who create safe work environments, which is essential because it serves as an example and motivates others to promote these policies in their organizations,” she said, calling on all female tourism entrepreneurs in Ñuble to apply for this contest.
For fourteen years now, this competition has highlighted women in the different roles they play in the national tourism industry, as they are a catalyst for positive changes in local economies. This time, part of the criteria for choosing the winners are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 8, which focus on gender equality, the empowerment of women, the promotion of decent work and inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The regional director of Sernatur Ñuble, Augusto González Jeldres, called on women in the region to apply for this important incentive, which in addition to providing a cash prize, “highlights the fundamental role that women play in the development of tourism at a national level. In 2021, Ñuble obtained first place at a national level, which went to Rosa Orellana, owner of the Reina Marina restaurant, a recognition that has allowed it to establish itself as a gastronomic alternative in the commune of Cobquecura. This year, those who promote decent work practices and safe environments within the tourism sector will be highlighted, particularly businesswomen who have adhered to our code of conduct against the sexual exploitation of girls, boys and adolescents in the context of travel and tourism (ESNNA-VT)”.
Female Tourism Entrepreneur 2024
Since 2011, Mujer Empresaria Turística has highlighted the important role that women have in the national industry, awarding more than 30 businesswomen who contribute to all aspects of this activity: owners of accommodations, restaurants, agencies, craft shops and tourist guides.
The regional minister for the Economy, Erick Solo de Zaldívar, mentioned that “it is important to highlight and support the valuable contribution that women entrepreneurs in tourism make in our region, who show the best of Ñuble with a high commitment to ethical and sustainable practices in the sector. That is why this award not only recognizes their leadership and career in tourism, but also offers them the possibility of making their ventures even more visible, which, without a doubt, are a tremendous contribution to the economic and social development of our region. We invite you to apply through the Sernatur website so as not to be left out of this tremendous opportunity.”
Pamela Muñoz, owner of “Cabañas Nativa” in the commune of San Fabián and the last regional winner of the MET, said that “it was a very nice experience to participate in the Women in Tourism Business, since it is a recognition of the work of women entrepreneurs, businesswomen and fighters who manage to highlight their initiatives in addition to their family work. As a tourist complex, Cabañas Nativa in San Fabián, we seek to innovate in our service to provide a pleasant family experience, with an eye towards inclusive and sustainable services. I invite all women to participate in this call and strengthen their businesses.”
How to participate? Applications will be open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024 through the form available at www.sernatur.cl/mujerempresariaturistica, where you can access the form with your Unique Key.
