Apple began offering selected press users the opportunity to capture spatial videos through the iPhone 15 Pro, allowing content to be revisited as memories through Apple Vision Pro. This new feature was introduced in iOS 17.2 for iPhone models 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and involves the devices’ main and ultra-wide cameras.
Video can be enjoyed using a headset, providing a three-dimensional experience as users move their heads, generating an immersive depth effect.
Lance Ulanoff, journalist for the Tech Radar portal, described the experience as immersive and exciting, although it didn’t feel like actually being inside the videos. He highlighted that the spatial dimension intensified his emotions during viewing, comparing it to the legendary reaction of primitive audiences to films of approaching trains.
Mark Spoonaur of Tom’s Guide speculates that the ability to view spatial videos on the Apple Vision Pro will encourage people to capture more moments in their lives.
Reflecting on the current use of his iPhone, Spoonaur highlights the attraction he feels in reliving memories through photos on the home screen and anticipates an increase in recording videos, whether regarding his daughter before going to college or fun recordings of his three dogs of the family playing in the backyard.
