Apple recently released firmware update 2.0.6 for the Magic Keyboard, which addresses a Bluetooth security issue. Firmware update 2.0.6 was released specifically to address a security risk. Previously, an attacker with physical access to the Magic Keyboard might potentially extract the Bluetooth pairing key and thus monitor Bluetooth traffic. This risk is addressed by the new update. Affected are the Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard (2021), Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad, Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and numeric keypad.
Automatic update installation
The good thing is that the firmware update will automatically install in the background as long as the Magic Keyboard is actively connected to a device running macOS, iOS, iPadOS or tvOS. Users don’t have to install anything manually because the update takes place automatically. This process makes updating easier and ensures that all Magic Keyboard users are protected.

Firmware 2.0.6: Version verification
To check if the update is installed on your device, you can check the Bluetooth settings on your Mac. To do this, go to System Preferences -> Bluetooth and click the “About” button next to your keyboard. After installing the update, firmware version 2.0.6 should be displayed there. Unfortunately, as is often the case, it is not possible to initiate the update manually.
