After this week’s keynote, the backs of fans of the 27-inch iMac were covered in a cold sweat: the large all-in-one has indeed disappeared from Apple’s catalog, and there was no indication that the manufacturer had a replacement in its boxes. However, there remained a tenuous hope, knowing that Mark Gurman was still expecting an iMac Pro.
Apple Silicon: where did the 27-inch iMac go?
Unfortunately, according to 9to5Mac which has very good info right now, Apple has no plans to release an iMac larger than the current 24-inch model in the near future. The tip comes from the same source that predicted the Mac Studio, so there’s every reason to give it some credit.
If Apple is working on a new 24-inch iMac which should be released in 2023, it would only be offered in one chip version, ie the M2 – no M2 Pro / Max, and even less M2 Ultra. Apple’s plans may still change by then and perhaps a larger iMac might finally see the light of day, but the odds seem pretty slim now.
We wonder what happened to this mysterious iMac Pro with mini-LED display which was to be presented this summer? Those who need a big screen might want to look into a Studio Display and Mac Studio or Mac mini combination, possibly. This is especially since Apple might market a Mac mini M2 Pro, probably more affordable than the Mac Studio.
Apple would work on Mac mini M2 and M2 Pro
Finally, the future MacBook Air would have an M2 chip
