Either because of an expired card or even if it no longer exists, failures in payment on platforms like App Store can be quite inconvenient — for both users and developers — but the Apple soon it will allow users to solve problems like this more easily.
As many may know, Apple handles payment processing through in-app purchases, but when a payment fails, many customers turn to the developers — as they may lose access to certain billing discounts or legacy plans.
However, according to a change announced by Apple, a new system will allow people to get help without leaving an app or having to call its developer. Basically, at the sign of a billing problem, the system will show an alert within the app itself that will allow you to update your Apple ID payment method.
In addition, developers will be able to enable new features, such as a billing grace period, to maintain access to a subscription’s features while billing issues are resolved. Apple will also use machine learning to optimize payment retries to get the best possible retry rate.
According to Apple, there is nothing developers need to do to adopt this feature, as it is part of the StoreKit framework with iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4. The novelty, however, will only be available in the summer of the northern hemisphere (ie, from June).
