A Apple may be very close to having to pay compensation of up to US$500 million for having limited the performance of older iPhones in response to a series of problems involving their batteries. The company, it is worth remembering, was the target of a series of collective actions that accused the company of practicing planned obsolescence via software updates.

As remembered by SiliconValley.com, in 2020 Apple agreed to pay this compensation in an agreement that sought to consolidate all open actions once morest the company involving this controversy. Two people even tried to take the case to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuitwhich recently denied the request and paved the way for the value to be passed on to iPhone owners who felt aggrieved.

According to Tyson Redenbarger, one of the lawyers who represented the affected consumers, regarding 3 million people claimed compensation, totaling regarding $65 for each. However, there are still some requests under analysis, which might make this number change a little.

While it has denied all allegations, Apple has agreed to pay between $310 and $500 million to put an end to this imbroglio. The list of devices affected by the company’s decision to limit its performance includes models such as the iPhones 6/6 Plusos iPhones 6s/6s Plus and the first generation iPhone SE (iOS 10.2.1 or later), in addition to the iPhones 7/7 Plus (iOS 11.2 or later).

At the time, Apple explained that it started to limit the performance of these devices to avoid unexpected shutdowns and damage to its electronic components, which, at that time, already suffered from dead batteries. The company, however, apologized for the lack of transparency.
