The Display Market Analyst Ross Young said today on twitter that the Apple Watch Ultra should only win one micro-LED screen in the second half of 2025, and no longer in 2024, as had been suggested in January by the also analyst Jeff Pu.
Young, it is worth remembering, had also said at the beginning of the year that Apple would only launch its watch with the new display technology in 2025, but without giving further details. At the time, he explained that the company should start production of Micro-LED panels in 2024, and the first products with the technology will only be launched in the spring (in the northern hemisphere) of 2025.
Journalist Mark Gurman of the Bloomberg, in turn, went so far as to say at the time that Apple intended to change the screen of the “more sophisticated” Apple Watches by the end of 2024 — that is, with the “Apple Watch Series 10” and/or with the “Apple Watch Ultra third generation”. With this new update, however, it is likely that the company has even postponed its plans.

Swapping that technology for Micro-LED screens would allow the company to release devices with brighter displays, with even better viewing angles and with more consistent colors.
Other advantages of Micro-LED displays are their greater energy efficiency, their practically infinite contrast and the lack of burn-in. Currently, however, the technology is still much more expensive than OLED and even Mini-LED.
