Called watchOS 10, this new version was deployed to the general public on September 18, once once more offering its share of new features.

While many fans rushed to download the new Snoopy dial, this major update notably allowed us to discover the NameDrop functionality, to quickly share your contact card via the Apple Watch, a new Smart Scroll too, which offers the most relevant widgets depending on the time of day, or even a new entry in the Mindfulness app, inviting you to record your daily emotions for better monitoring of mental well-being. And that was just the beginning. Announced as the biggest overhaul of watchOS since the launch of the toquant stamped with the bitten apple, this 10th version had not yet revealed what is certainly its biggest new feature: Double Tap, or “Touch twice” in French . SFR News tells you everything you need to know regarding this new control gesture, oh so practical.

How to enable the Double-tap gesture on Apple Watch?

We will have had to wait a little longer before the deployment of this function, which was nevertheless highlighted during Apple’s Keynote last September. The wait is now over: the Double Tap gesture is available with the watchOS 10.1 update, available since October 25 on all compatible Apple Watches (i.e. Apple Watch Series 4 and later models). Only problem, and not the least: this new function will not appear on all models, being only reserved for the most recent. Namely the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Only owners of one of Apple’s two exciting new products will be able to benefit from it. Are you one of the lucky ones affected? So we invite you to update your beautiful jewel now to watchOS 10.1. As a reminder, in order to perform the update, your Apple Watch must be placed on its charger (the download will begin when it has at least 50% battery) and remain within range of your iPhone, which must be connected to a wifi network.

Once the watchOS 10.1 update has been completed, this new “Double-tap” control gesture will be activated by default on your Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2. However, you can deactivate it, if you wish, always from the settings in the Watch app on your iPhone. What commands can be performed with the Double-tap gesture?

As you will have understood, the new Apple Watches therefore have a new way to interact with applications, in addition to the Digital Crown, the side button, or even the gestures enabled by the touch screen (Touch, Swipe , Cover). What sets this one apart, however, and this is its entire reason for being, is that it does not require any contact with the watch, other than obviously wearing it on the wrist. Like the “Raise to reactivate” gesture, which simply involves raising your wrist to see the screen light up, the Apple Watch uses its various sensors to recognize the “Double-tap” gesture. “, which consists of joining the thumb and index finger twice.
