Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 to be discontinued in the US – Bloomberg

Apple will stop selling its latest smartwatch models in the United States due to patent disputes. The affected models will disappear from sales shelves during the holiday shopping season.

According to the company’s announcement, sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 will be suspended from December 21st at online stores and from December 24th, Christmas Eve, at physical stores.

This is a move ahead of the anticipated ban on imports of models equipped with blood oxygen sensors that first appeared in 2020. The device equipped with the sensor is currently in a legal battle with medical device manufacturer Masimo.

In October, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) determined that Apple was infringing on Masimo’s patents and that it was necessary to stop selling the devices.
