Apple Watch Series 8 should be able to measure body temperature

Last year we talked regarding the fact that the next Apple Watch should be able to measure the body temperature of the wearer. In the end, however, this feature didn’t make it into the Series 7.

Now the Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has commented on exactly this topic. On his Twitter-Account he writes:

Apple has removed body temperature measurement for the Apple Watch Series 7 because the algorithm was not ready before the final testing phase. I believe this feature will be integrated into the Apple Watch Series 8 in the second half of 2022, when the algorithm meets Apple’s high requirements before mass production starts.

The big problem, according to Kuo, is that skin temperature can change very quickly depending on the environment. “A smartwatch cannot hardware-wise support core temperature measurement, so it needs an excellent algorithm to work with it.”

Incidentally, according to Kuo, this is a problem that not only Apple is struggling with. So it is questionable whether Samsung will be able to integrate the same feature into its Galaxy Watch 5 in the second half of the year.
