The Swiss manufacturer ams-OSRAM AGsupplier of Apple, announced today that one of its customers canceled an “important project” — something that might force it to sell part of its production unit in Malaysia.
The company declined to identify the customer in question, but said the project “supports its Micro-LED display strategy.” Several analysts, however, said that the planning is related to the Apple Watch — more specifically, the production of the model with a display Micro-LED.
Recently, it is worth noting, the The Elec assessed that Apple had not completed the supply chain of components to manufacture Micro-LED screens for the Apple Watch, so a launch in 2026 — or even 2027 — is uncertain.
With today’s information, however, the rest of the initiative appears to be in limbo. Even if Apple finds a replacement supplier, the most likely scenario is that we will have to wait perhaps even longer for an Apple Watch with a Micro-LED screen.
