Billy Smitha 43-year-old resident of Oklahoma (United States), attributed the Apple Watch his transformation from heart attack survivor to marathon runner. Its story began in 2020, when it went through a triple bypass surgery following the episode.
After the procedure, Smith found himself at a crossroads, barely able to walk. A “chance encounter” with an Apple Watch while scrolling through Facebook then triggered a pivotal moment in his recovery.
“I’m going to put this thing on and track my heartbeat,” he decided. Little did he know that this decision would propel him into a new chapter of health and fitness.
Inspired by the features of the Apple Watch, Smith set out to hit activity goals every day. As he became fitter, his ambitions soared, leading him to sign up for the race OKC Memorial 5Kin October.
It kind of took off from there. I started hiking and camping, and at the same time, I tried to reach my goals [de atividades] every day. I’m obsessed with it.
For the KOKH, Smith said that before the heart attack, he faced type 2 diabetes and led a sedentary lifestyle. It was through the watch that he not only overcame heart problems but also reversed his diabetes.
As today (November 14th) is celebrated the World Diabetes Day, nothing fairer than inspiring others to embark on the journey of fitness and avoid health problems, just like Smith. Recently, we showed other cases where the Apple Watch helped users with diabetes.
Apple Watch warns artist of serious heart condition
Now the artist Bob Ichteraged 65, credited the Apple Watch for saving his life following the device detected an irregular heart rhythm, encouraging him to seek medical attention; the American was diagnosed with an enlarged aorta.
Ichter initially disregarded the elevated heart rate reading of 150 beats per minute during exercise, assuming a possible error. However, a friend’s advice to see a doctor proved crucial.
When seeking care, the artist spent 11 days in the hospital and needed a cardiac conversion procedure to stabilize his heart rhythm. He later underwent surgery to replace his aorta.
The doctors said, “You wouldn’t last much longer at the rate you were going,” because I was in atrial fibrillation, regarding to go into heart failure.
Months following surgery, in an interview with FOX5Ichter said he was feeling “fantastic” and expressed gratitude for the health monitoring capabilities of Apple’s smartwatch.
“If you have an Apple Watch with all these features, turn them on, because [eles] can save your life”, concluded Ichter, encouraging other watch users to activate the available health monitoring functions. ????
