The resource Fall Detection on one Apple Watch helped save the life of a cyclist, identified as Eric Zollinger, following an accident during a storm, in New York (United States). The informations are from The New York Post.
As detailed in a publication, Zollinger went through a hole filled with water and was thrown from his bike. At first, he thought everything was fine, but when he got home, he realized he was losing a lot of blood through his nose and soon started to feel dizzy, then fainted.
Zollinger’s Apple Watch then called emergency services and notified his emergency contacts. Thanks to the watch, the cyclist received help from healthcare professionals before anything worse might happen.
I ended up falling in the shower and my Apple Watch hit the side of the tub and because of the impact, it called 911 and alerted my emergency contacts with a map showing my exact location. The next thing I remember hearing is, “911, what’s your emergency?”
Thinking regarding what happened, Zollinger said he knows his Apple Watch was very important in calling help and perhaps saving his life. Furthermore, the cyclist expressed gratitude that the watch was useful in a time of emergency.
I don’t know how things would have turned out for me if the clock hadn’t alerted me.
Last December, Apple Watch Fall Detection helped rescue Mike Menand, who fell while hiking in Chattahochee National Park, Georgia, USA.
The man was rescued following his watch alerted emergency services when it detected the fall. He broke his leg and needed surgery. Like Zollinger, Menand expressed gratitude to paramedics and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
