Less than 24 hours following Apple release pre-sale Vision Prowhose stock took a little longer than normal to “run out”, there are already people wanting to make a profit (a lot!) from those who were unable to order Maçã’s mixed reality headset in time — including on Brazil.
As our writer Pedro Henrique Nunes noted, a man from São Paulo made not just one, but three variants of the headset available on Mercado Livre. There are (at least links to) a device with 256GB, another with 512GB and another with 1TB — the three storage configurations sold by Apple.
The most curious thing of all is the price being charged: R$42 mil, R$45 mil e R$48 mil (from smallest to largest storage capacity). Considering only the amount charged for the 256GB model, it is more than double the price of the headset in a direct conversion from the dollar value to the real — what some like to call the “Apple dollar”.
In the advertisements, it is said that the devices will be available 15 days following purchase. Apple, it is worth remembering, does not sell the Vision Pro in Brazil — or in any country outside the United States —, so, in addition to having to pay this exorbitant amount, whoever purchases the device here initially will have to face strong limitations if they do not have a US Apple ID.
Global phenomenon?
This isn’t just happening here, obviously. On some international websites, the headset is being sold for prices that can range from of US$4 thousand to the US$12 mil — which is more than triple the original price charged by Apple.
It is worth noting that, unlike an iPhone in life, before purchasing the Apple Vision Pro, the person theoretically needs to scan their face (using an iPhone or an iPad with Face ID) to detect the ideal size of the headset’s accessories — which can result in headaches (literally) for those who acquire it through unconventional means.
