Earlier this week, Apple unveiled its Vision Pro AR/VR headset. Many technical characteristics have thus been revealed. We already know Apple’s headset refresh rate. This release might have worried Meta, who is currently working on his Quest 3. But Mark Zuckerberg, group boss, was able to try the Apple headset. And, according to him, the Vision Pro should not compete with the Quest 3.
So, in a meeting with Meta employees, Mark Zuckerberg said that Apple’s device did not feature major technological advancements that Meta hadn’t already explored. Additionally, this one highlights the price gap between the Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3. Indeed, Apple sticks to its policy of high-end hardware, boasting an introductory price of $3,499. It should therefore not encroach on the flowerbeds of the Meta Quest 3, the price of which does not exceed 499 dollars.
Apple Vision Pro: Mark Zuckerberg remains confident
Mark Zuckerberg begins like this:I think their ad really highlights the difference in values and vision that our companies bring in a way that I think is very important […] All of the demonstrations they presented were of a person sitting alone on a couch. I mean this might be the vision of the future of computing, but it’s not the one i want“.
However, the Apple Vision Pro is indeed a mixed reality headset. This makes it possible to display the direct environment of the user and to overlay information. The helmet therefore allows, in theory, to play sports, walk or drink coffee with the helmet in front of your eyes. Moreover, these are projected on the front of the Apple headset.
Meta has been trying for a long time to position itself as ae leader in the field of virtual and augmented reality and invests billions of dollars a year in this technology. Since the Quest 3 had been announced shortly before, Meta feared Apple’s announcement. But its high price should protect the company from excessive competition.
