Apple TV+ has expensive but well-reviewed productions, survey indicates

One survey of NetCredit which analyzed the price and evaluation of productions released by the eight main streaming services for films and series in the United States brought mixed results for the Apple TV+. While presenting, in general, productions more expensive than their competitors, they also tend to be best rated by users.

Analyzing films and series released between January 2023 and June 2024 by services such as Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, HBO Max/Max, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Peacock e Paramount+the platform calculated both the percentage of productions with low, medium and excellent ratings, as well as the amount that each subscriber pays for them based on the price of each streaming.

In the criterion of valorwhich only takes into account productions with a rating of at least 7.5 on IMDB, Apple TV+ is by far the service with the films more expensive. According to the research, they are charged US$44,96 for each title, a number 23 times higher than that recorded by Amazon Prime Video (US$1.95), which has the cheapest highly rated films.

Films

When we talk about programs (category that includes the series), the situation is less dire for Apple’s streaming service, which charges about US$8,99 for each well-rated production. This is a value very close to that charged by Disney+ (US$8.12) and “only” four times lower than that of Netflix (US$2.21), which has the cheapest productions among the others in this category.

Programs

When the analysis takes into account exclusively the reviews given by IMDB users to filmsApple’s service is the third with the highest number of ratings ranging from 7.5 to 10 (20%). The other 80% represent productions with scores between 5 and 7.5 — making the service the only one not to have titles rated lower than 5.

Films

If we talk about programsApple TV+ takes a much larger share of highly rated movies (37%), coming in second place and very close to the leader Disney+ (41.3%). Once again, Apple’s service is the only one not to have productions with ratings lower than 5, with 63% of the ratings given on IMDB being in the range of ratings between 5 and 7.5.

Programs

In a specific analysis in relation to the genresthe research also pointed out the documentaries as the preferred type of production for both films and series on Apple’s platform — although genres such as animation and mystery/horror also scored well in the program category.

It is also part of the company’s subscription package, Apple One.
