Apple TV 4K: a featherweight that no longer bothers with the charging cable for the remote control

Seen from afar, the third generation of the Apple TV 4K looks like the two previous ones… But getting a little closer, there are still some size differences ????! The new models are indeed more collected with a height of 31 mm (4 mm less than the previous version), and a width and a depth of 93 mm (it is 5 mm less).

The weight is also no longer the same, since the new generation Apple TV 4K weighs 208 grams (214 g for the version with Ethernet port): a featherweight compared to the second generation which displayed 425 grams on the scale! But where does this significant difference come from? Most definitely fan removal!

This is ” energy efficiency ” of the A15 chip which exempts the Apple TV from a fan, which makes it possible to lighten not only the weight but also the design of the device, as the manufacturer explains in the communiqué.

In the game of 7 differences, we will of course not forget the absence of an Ethernet port on the basic version at 169 €, and the USB-C port to recharge the Siri remote control! Apple unfortunately did not go so far as to provide a charging cable, it would have been too good… Even if the manufacturer previously made this effort by slipping a Lightning to USB cable into the boxes of previous Apple TV models.

Before ???? // After ????

But following all, Apple doesn’t provide an HDMI cable anymore, which would be quite good for a premium TV streaming box. Small consolation: this compact design, the new packaging and the light weight of the whole contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint of the Apple TV by 25%.
