Apple turns the iPhone into a webcam

“Continuity Camera” is one of the new features presented in the wake of macOS Ventura.

In the list of new software developed and presented by Apple, I ask for “Continuity Camera”! Long presented by the head of software at Apple, Craig Federighi, this strange novelty allows, if we summarize it in its simplest form, to transform your iPhone into a camera for your Mac.

Obviously, this new feature can make you smile in 2022, and yet it is very serious. Thanks to a small support which will be marketed by Apple and which will make it possible to maintain the iPhone in height just above the screen of the MacBook.

Compatible with many applications

With the new macOS Ventura update, the wearable will automatically recognize that an iPhone is positioned near it and should connect to it. No need to open the Camera first since it will open on its own. This is not specified by Apple, but it is assumed that the iPhone will have to ship iOS 16.

The point of such a feature is precisely to improve the quality of video calls. FaceTime, but also Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx and any other macOS calling app.

Apple also said it was working with Belkin to produce third-party media. It is assumed that they will be somewhat cheaper than those produced by Apple, which will probably be sold at full price.

We do not know the final price, however, but Federighi has certified that they will be released later this year.
