Apple to Release New Lower-Cost ‘AirPods Lite’ and Revamped AirPods Max, Analyst Says

Apple is set to release new models of its AirPods lineup later this year, including a lower-cost version dubbed “AirPods Lite,” according to analyst Jeff Pu. In a recently published investor note, Pu confirmed speculation and predicted that these new AirPods would hit the market in the second half of 2024. Pu further revealed that Apple is also planning to launch new AirPods Max later this year.

Pu’s report also addressed the impact of AirPods production on Apple’s supply chain and partners. He projected a 4% year-over-year decline in AirPods volume in 2024, attributing it to muted demand for existing models. However, Pu did not provide specific details regarding the features and specifications of the new low-cost AirPods, which he referred to as “AirPods Lite.”

Joining Pu in confirming the arrival of lower-priced AirPods is Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who previously reported that Apple would enter mass production of these budget-friendly AirPods in the second half of 2024. Kuo also suggested a possible price point of $99 for the “AirPods Lite.”

Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a renowned Apple insider, has consistently reported that Apple is preparing to introduce the AirPods 4 this year with two different models. While both variants of the AirPods 4 are expected to feature a refreshed design and USB-C charging case, only the higher-end version will offer noise cancellation capabilities.

The connection between Pu’s “AirPods Lite” and Gurman’s AirPods 4 remains unclear. It remains to be seen whether they are referring to the same lower-end version or entirely different products. Over time, more information will likely surface to shed light on this matter.

Currently, Apple’s AirPods lineup consists of five different versions. With the expected introduction of the AirPods 4, which may include the “AirPods Lite,” Apple continues to innovate and cater to a diverse range of users and their audio needs.

Analyzing the implications of these developments, it’s clear that Apple is keen on expanding its market share in the wireless earphone industry. With their positive track record and widespread popularity, AirPods have become a significant source of revenue for Apple. Introducing a lower-cost variant will likely attract a broader customer base and enable Apple to tap into a more price-sensitive segment of the market.

Moreover, the revelation of new AirPods Max indicates that Apple aims to cater to high-end audio enthusiasts. By offering premium features and technologies, such as noise cancellation, Apple seeks to meet the demands of audiophiles who prioritize audio quality and a premium user experience.

Looking ahead, the future of wireless audio technology appears promising. As Apple continues to refine and expand its AirPods lineup, we can expect to see advancements in areas like audio quality, battery life, connectivity, and smart features. The seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac, will likely remain a cornerstone of AirPods’ appeal.

Beyond Apple’s products, the broader industry is also expected to witness substantial growth and innovation. As more players enter the market and competition intensifies, we anticipate a wider range of choices for consumers. With improved technology and more affordable options, wireless earphones may soon become the dominant audio accessory for mobile devices.

Emerging trends, such as the integration of artificial intelligence and virtual assistants into wireless earphones, might redefine the user experience. As we move towards a more connected and voice-controlled world, these features will enhance convenience and productivity.

In conclusion, Apple’s plans to release new models within its AirPods lineup, including a more affordable version and a high-end variant with advanced features, reflect the company’s commitment to innovation and meeting the diverse needs of consumers. As the wireless audio market continues to evolve, improved technology, increased competition, and integration with emerging trends are set to shape an exciting and promising future for wireless earphones.
