Apple to launch journal app similar to Day One Journal

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is planning to launch a new native iOS app targeting users’ mental and physical health capabilities. Still without a defined name, the application should work as a diary, allowing the recording of different activities — just like the Day One Journal.

Still according to WSJthe app (codenamed “Jurassic”) “will analyze user behavior to determine what a typical day is like, including how much time is spent at home compared to other places and whether anything was out of the ordinary on any given day.”

The difference of this app would be in the ability to collect more data than third parties, being able to access messages and calls. All this guarantees the WSJmust remain on the device itself, ensuring the privacy and security of information.

This data collection should enable a personalization feature, which will highlight potential topics for people to write in the app — like a workout, for example. These suggestions must remain in the system for one month, after which time they will be deleted.

In addition, the application will also have a function called All Day People Discoveryidealized – according to the WSJ — to “detect the user’s physical proximity to other people”.

In an interview, Paul Maynecreator of Day One Journal, said he will have to work to differentiate his product if Apple launches an application similar to the one that has existed since 2011. “It will certainly give us some kind of competition,” he added.

Also according to Mayne, Day One became a phenomenon thanks to Apple’s support and even received a design award from the company in 2014. Mayne said that the app reached over 200,000 paying subscribers.

There is no word on when (or if) the native Apple app will be released. However, the WSJ states that it may be announced in the WWDC23in June, with the iOS 17. The American newspaper was unable to verify whether Apple plans to charge for the app. When contacted, the company obviously declined to comment.
