According to a new report from Bloomberga Apple and Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD worked together since approximately 2017 aiming to build a battery using lithium iron phosphate cells. Efforts were aimed at “Apple Car”an electric car project canceled by Maçã this year.
The technology developed for the component, designed to have greater durability and safety, may have been fundamental in the production of the battery Bladewhich equips BYD vehicles — although the company claims that its battery concept emerged independently and has full rights to it.

According to the publication, Apple executives had access to the first versions of the Blade and teamed up with BYD to complement technologies already existing at both companies for a personalized battery — work that was carried out at Maçã by a team of 50 engineers, led by Alexander Hitzinger and Mujeeb Ijaz.
Even though it had worked with BYD for years, Apple reportedly withdrew from the partnership and even considered using systems from other manufacturers before canceling its electric car project completely — something that happened after numerous delays and challenges faced in manufacturing.
