Apple Stores will use iPhone 14 as payment terminal

Who has visited a Apple Store you’ve probably seen an iPhone being used as a payment terminal when closing a purchase. These devices are usually always in a special protective cover and, last year, they began to accept approximation payments.

Well, as noted by journalist Mark Gurman, from BloombergApple will start replacing the old iPhones X used in its stores for this purpose with the modern (and much more recent) iPhones 14. The previous model, it is worth remembering, was left out of the list of devices supported by iOS 17.

Apple retail stores will start moving their point-of-sale systems (called Isaacs) from the old iPhone Xs to the iPhone 14. This won’t mean anything for customers, but it will make things go faster for retail employees, they usually have to change their old iPhones several times a day.

According to Gurman, the change of devices was motivated by a series of complaints from Apple Store employees, who needed to change devices multiple times a day. In response to the journalist’s tweet, an Apple employee reported having to switch devices up to three times during their working hours.

It is not yet known when this transition will begin, but it is expected to occur gradually in Apple Stores in all countries. While it doesn’t change much for customers, this switch will definitely make life a lot easier for store employees, who will be able to take advantage of the iPhone 14’s improved battery and the performance of the A15 Bionic chip.
