Who still remembers what a CD? Well, these discs were once widely used for various purposes, but they ended up being defeated by innovation and, nowadays, they are much more restricted in use. Still, until recently, the Apple sold installation CDs Mac OS X Lion 10.7 It’s from OS X Mountain Lion 10.8(!).

The company, however, finally stopped selling CDs in its online store, which cost US$20 in the United States. With them, it was possible to install the aforementioned systems on Macs, especially on older ones, which still had the now almost Jurassic optical CD and DVD reader.

Today is a sad day… You can no longer buy OS X Mountain Lion from Apple’s online store. ????
For those who didn’t know, you might still buy OS X Lion and Mountain Lion from Apple’s online store!! (until the end of last month, I think).
This is the error users now see when trying to visit the link. ????

Mac OS unthinkable on today’s thin MacBooks, or even desktop machines.

Apple had already been showing signs that it would stop selling installation CDs for these systems. Two years ago, the company began making installation files available for software versions in pages support for free. In this case, you need to insert the files onto a pendrive or other disk and use it to perform the installation.

Although it is strange that Apple was still selling these items so long following the launch of the systems, there are still Macs out there that continue to be used with these versions of OS 2016). Even though they shouldn’t be so numerous, it is possible that, at least until some time ago, there was still some flow of CD sales, although it is possible to imagine that it was decreasing over time.

With the end of official sales by Maçã, it is quite possible that CDs will go from the category of “old product that no one knows why it is still sold” to that of “historical relic”. It would not be surprising, therefore, to see one of these records being auctioned in a few decades for prices reasonably above US$20.

Out of curiosity, since 2011, when Mac OS X Lion was new, there were ways to install the system without using the CD, as we ourselves reported at the time! It is also possible that people who still have one of these CDs sell them on used product sales sites, most likely with a certain inflation of Apple’s most recent price.

Does anyone have or have purchased a Mac OS X installation CD?
