Apple still wants iPhone with reverse wireless charging, says rumor

Every year, countless rumors regarding what will be the next big technology to land on the iPhone surface on the internet. As we know, only some come to fruition, while others are postponed or simply discarded. One bet in particular, however, has been a constant in recent times: the reverse wireless charging (also called bilateral).

This feature, present in several Android devices for some time, has been fanned for Apple’s smartphone at least since the launch of the line iPhone 11in 2019. Including a teardown of one of the devices revealed at the time that they already had the necessary hardware for this technology to work, although it had not yet appeared — which was repeated a year later, with the line iPhone 12.

If following so long you’ve become hopeless regarding the possibility of Apple adopting reverse wireless charging on its devices, know that there is still hope. According to information from the 9to5MacApple is still developing a more advanced version of the technology and has even considered releasing it in the iPhones 14 Pro/14 Pro Max — but the appeal was not finalized in time.

Reverse wireless charging would allow you to recharge accessories Qi just by placing them on the back of the iPhone which, in turn, would serve as a sort of power bank. Devices like the AirPods and the Apple Watch are examples of products that would benefit from this type of technology.

Even though it missed last year’s launch, the information is that Apple is still working on the technology. At the moment, the company would be developing firmware to control power output, an animated user interface for when an accessory is detected by the system, and a sound effect.

As it is still in development, it is possible that Apple will end up postponing the feature once once more or simply give up on the idea, it is worth noting. If all goes well, it is very likely that we will see reverse wireless charging paint on the “iPhones 15” (who knows only on the Pro models), given the time that the novelty has been in development.
